Happy New Year,
All of us at HRA wish everyone all the best for 2025. We know that now more than ever, staying together, strengthening community bonds, and standing up for those who are the most vulnerable are more important than ever! To that end, we will be hosting a series of educational seminars, meetings, and trainings.
This week the SF Reporter put out a story about the tragic shooting of Gracen Coon by the SFPD on September 22, 2024.
Please take a moment to read this beautifully written and heartbreaking story by Evan Chandler and Dave Cathey. It is clear that advocating for updated Police training is necessary to make the SFPD and the city the best they can be in creating an understanding and supportive Community for everyone, especially those with mental illness.
There is a Rally for the Community happening on January 11, 2025, at the Roundhouse – see the information below.
We will be sharing information about the upcoming legislative session and how the Community can get involved. There is a special ‘Queer’ community legislative day happening on January 30, 2025 from 10:00am – 1:00pm, which Equality New Mexico (EQNM) sponsors. If you are interested in being part of this special legislative day, please contact me directly: kevinb@hrasantafe.org
Updates: We will begin hosting the monthly ‘Queer’ night Somewhere in the Rainbow at The Mystic Santa Fe and combining it with our PRIDE After 5 mixer. Stay tuned for the dates and additional information.
In the meantime, HRA needs some community support:
We need three new Board members moving into 2025: Please get in touch with Kevin Bowen kevinb@hrasantafe.org or Tim Struck tims@hrasantafe.org
We are looking for an office space to host our community meetings. We hope to find a space that can be donated for about 18 months. If you know of any space or have any ideas for us, please contact me directly.
In good health and solidarity!
Kevin A. Bowen
