Hello All,
I have some exciting news to share – PLEASE READ:
At its meeting tomorrow night, the Santa Fe City Council will hear for the first time a proposal for a resolution establishing anti-bullying zones and safe spaces for LGBTQ people in all city-owned buildings and offices. The resolution, co-sponsored by Mayor Alan Webber and City Councilors Sig Lindell and Alma Castro, calls for signage that would promote the anti-bullying regulations.
If adopted, the resolution would establish the city’s “commitment to supporting LGBTQIA2+ community members, queer youth, Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (“BIPOC”), and other marginalized communities.“
A memo accompanying the proposed resolution from Casey Dalbor, the city’s business growth manager, notes City Manager John Blair’s office would also create a “city-wide employee training program in support of safe-space and anti-bullying policies and regulations“ and to respond to incidents of bullying and harassment within city offices and buildings.
HRA has been instrumental in making this resolution a reality through our Equal Grounds Coffee events. We can not thank the community enough for their support and feedback. I don’t know of a better time to introduce this legislation than during PRIDE month. I am so proud of our work and the positive change it will create for our community!
If you are available this evening, Wednesday, June 12, 2024, and would like to show support and stand with the Human Rights Alliance for this important piece of legislation, please join us at City Hall. Public comments begin around 7 p.m.; we suggest arriving by 6:45 p.m.
And – don’t forget about PRIDE After 5 tomorrow at Cowgirl BBQ, The Queer Prom this Friday evening, and stop by and see us at Juneteenth on the Plaza this Saturday. Check out the complete list of upcoming PRIDE events with updated performer information on oure PRIDE 2024 Page.
In solidarity and PRIDE,
Kevin
