Happy Friday and weekend to all,

The good news is that spring is on its way, and the days are getting longer and a bit warmer. Even some of the fruit trees are starting to bloom.

We are thrilled to announce the Theme for PRIDE 2025:
This theme is a combination of three entrants to our theme contest.

Resilience – Stronger Than Ever

Here are a couple of things for you to be aware of from a community perspective:

Thankfully, the possible blackout yesterday announced by PNM due to weather and high winds did not happen. Be aware that these types of outages may be more frequent as a precautionary means of mitigating loss due to fires caused by downed power lines. We should all have plans in place for these possible outages; those plans are essential for those folks who need power to run medical devices.

We should all understand that the city of Santa Fe is short-staffed throughout the city, including the Emergency Management office. This is why HRA wants to promote community awareness and involvement.

Please, if you see this announcement again, check on your neighbors, especially if they are incapacitated in any way, are elderly, or survive because they use a medical device. Please understand that  PNM, the city, and the county may become overwhelmed during emergency situations, and we, the citizens, will also need to be proactive and responsible. Hence, the importance of We, the People!

We are tracking political developments at the state and Federal Levels. We owe a big shout-out to Melanie Stansbury, D-NM, for her fiery speeches on the House floor and her fabulous sign at the President’s address to Congress.

This administration is attempting to delete the Department of Education – I don’t need to tell you the importance of this Department. But alas, as it has policies surrounding Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (stop using DEI; state the words repeatedly to let them resonate and sink in [hopefully] to those who likely are just using the term without a proper understanding of its meaning). Here is a link to some talking points about the Department of Education – just in case.

We will soon have an update on the status of our new center to share, and then we will need some community help getting that center funded and set up. We will put out a wish list soon of things we will need.
