Here are a few updates from this past week: HRA had a VERY successful Board retreat last Saturday, October 7. In the morning, we met to discuss good board governance and a forward-thinking and reaching plan for the Human Rights Alliance and its next 30 years. We spent several hours in DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) training in the afternoon. Everyone is committed first to DEI, making it a centerpiece for the organization and all we do.
I am also pleased to announce that we have added a new Board member, Heather Hoffman, who joined us as a Board Advisor and will now become an official Board member and our new Treasurer. We elected other officers, which we have listed here below.
We still need two board members to bring our Board to its optimal size and scope. Please don’t hesitate to express your interest in joining this dynamic organization as we move forward with re-solidifying our mission.
HRA was so proud to sponsor the first-ever PowWow for Indigenous Peoples Day sponsored by the Santa Fe Indigenous Center this past Monday, October 9. HRA’s Vice-president Dusty Pruitt and PRIDE Committee member Alejandro Fernandez and I assisted as volunteers for the event. It’s hard to imagine in the centuries-long history of Santa Fe that a PowWow has never happened on the Plaza until 2023.
It was a beautiful, emotional, and historical day to honor and celebrate those whose land was taken from them and to commit to creating more equity throughout the city!
Join us for PRIDE after 5 tonight at Vanessies’. Drag Bingo is next Wednesday evening at Tumbleroot, and we need your support for our Annual Halloween Ball and Fundraiser on Saturday, October 28, 2023 – buy a ticket, gift a ticket, or donate, please, so we can continue our good work!
