As the Fall is quickly approaching, HRA is ramping up our activities. Here’s what’s going on:

We have our first PRIDE 2024 planning meeting next Wednesday at 6:30 pm. If you are interested in becoming part of our PRIDE and Community Relations committees please join us. Email info@hrasantafe.org for meeting location and details. If you can’t make this first meeting, no worries; just let us know if you are interested in being part of this essential committee of the HRA.

Planning is underway for our Halloween Fundraiser – Vamp Motel. If you would like to be a volunteer to help us with the evening, please sign up here: Click here to volunteer for Vamp Motel!

I sent letters to the Santa Fe New Mexican and the Santa Fe Reporter regarding the proposal for a ballot initiative to set up an office of Equity and Inclusion OEI for the city. Click here to read ‘My View.’

And, of course, history has repeated itself, and yet another monument has been toppled – the Kit Carson Monument in front of the Federal Courthouse Building on Federal Way. – read more.

The Human Rights Alliance does not support violence and vandalism as a means of public protest and condemns the parties involved in this situation. However, we support the recognition, acceptance, and understanding of the ‘real’ history of Santa Fe and the great county we live in. Kit Carson is considered a divisive historical figure who embodied some of the worst aspects of colonialism and patriarchy. Without putting him or others in the context of the horrors they oversaw during their lifetimes, we are continuing an untruthful narrative, disrespectful to those harmed and unrealistic for us as a civilized people to maintain. TRUTH matters.

Word on the street is that the Santa Fe governing body will be working to approve legislation to create an OEI in the not-too-distant future. We at HRA are willing to roll our sleeves up and create a new paradigm for our beautiful city.
